In March 2024, in the middle of the night, the entrances of my two neighbouring houses blasted in Järnbrott, Västra Frölunda. The blasts were described as related to criminal gang activities. During the same period, I spent time exploring and field painting in the small forest and granite ridge area next to the houses called Järnbrottsås. The ridge has several rock quarries from different eras, several stone deposits and graves from the Late Iron Age of archaeological interest. The forest is full of hewn and cut rock with dynamite holes as traces of blasting. During the fifties and sixties there were two rock crushers on the ridge and crushing rock on a daily basis, one of these was standing next to our house, where the police have just recently placed a new surveillance camera.
The exhibition is showing the time line of a blasting. The anticipation of pushing the blast trigger, the blasting as a violent rift in time and the aftermath as a long period of healing and amongst ruins looking at the void.
